January is officially over and everybody has been in full organizing mode. I know this because I went to Costco just a few days ago to buy organizing products and the whole aisle was empty! I needed to stock up on the iDesign kitchen bins and they were completely sold out. I wonder if the IG REELS, I shared of organizing products found at Costco gave everybody in my area the push to start getting organized. I hope that’s the case because getting organized is a journey worth the effort and change.
For this month’s blog post, I’m sharing my top 5 organizing products that will help you create systems that work for you and your family. Of course, you don’t need a lot of organize products to start your organizing journey, you can start with what you have at home. When I first started organizing my house, the first thing I did was declutter and started creating systems with what I already had like shoe boxes, mix-matching baskets, and even grocery boxes wrapped in gift wrapping paper for a nice look. Remember that getting organized is a journey that allows you to implement systems that if they don’t work you can easily change and adjust. The goal is to start and above all declutter FIRST. Letting go of things that hold us back from creating the life we deserve is liberating and so worth it.
Now, here are 5 products that you can start purchasing once the decluttering is done:
Rolling Utility Cart: whether you have kids or not, a rolling utility cart is a key organizing product at home. Some uses of the rolling utility cart include art supplies, laundry products, office paper, baby essentials, mail management system, drink cart, exercise equipment, pantry essentials, books, and much more. The beauty of the rolling utility cart is that it has 3 compartments that allow easy access and keep things divided into categories. Fortunately, there’s a Large Rolling Utility Cart that can hold up to 10 pounds per tier. The rolling cart is so versatile and will keep your belongings organized. We have 2 small rolling carts for each girl’s distance learning supplies and a large one with all the electronics like tablets, games, and accessible school supplies that tended to clutter our dining table.
Self Adhesive Hooks: you will hear me say a lot “maximizing your vertical space” and what that means is to go up, use your wall, back of the door, and vertical space in your home to create more space. For example, you used the Self Adhesive Hooks in client’s homes to create hat walls, hats are beautifully displayed and not taking additional space in the closet. You can also use these hooks for towels, backpacks, jewelry, and anything that needs to be hung. The self-adhesive hooks are very sturdy and are permanently placed in clean walls, just make sure to know exactly where the hook will live.
Turntables aka Lazy Susans: turntables are an organizer’s best friend, they maximize and make any space accessible. The most versatile of all, turntables can pretty much be used in ALL spaces of your home: kitchen, pantry, under the sink, bathroom, art room, medicine cabinet, makeup station, home office, bar, and much more. If you don’t own at least one turntable, you must because it will totally change your life. Turntables make it easy to search and reach for things. Pro-tip: round products on turntables for maximizing space!
Clear Shoe Box: clear shoe boxes aren’t just for shoes, they can store so much more and keep your things much more organized. Categorizing your belongings in smaller boxes also makes it easier to store things like keepsakes, ornaments, small toys, LEGO sets, backstock, art crafts, and much more. Stackable and clear shoe boxes make it a neater and cleaner look. Always make sure to label your boxes so you know what’s inside them. We have used the clear boxes in playrooms, under the sink areas, ornaments and toys. The possibilities are endless with a clear shoe box. When storing things in boxes also make sure you are storing what you need and actually use, let go of the clutter and make room for more. It's okay to have empty spaces so things can breathe easily.
Clear File Box: when paper clutter is out of control, implement a file system that allows you to see everything you have but first declutter, you will be surprised how much paper you are accumulating and actually don’t need. Start small, recycle and shred documents with personal information. Organizing and decluttering paper can be a dreaded task, however, letting go of paper is so satisfying and liberating that you will feel as if a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. We have used the clear file box for students’ remote learning as well as small business owners and personal documents for clients. The clear file box is paired with hanging file folders and personalized by request.
