January is such an exciting time, a new month, a new year, new decade to achieve all your proposed intentions. This month is coming to an end and I hope you have been keeping track of all your achievements and intentions that you set for the new year.
Resolutions, goals, intentions or new habits, whatever you have decided to accomplish in the new year, an extremely powerful habit is to write it all down. There’s power in writing things down!
For one year, I’ve been practicing Rachel Hollis Start Today Journal routine inside my planner. If you are not familiar with Rachel Hollis, she is the author of Girl, Wash Your Face, motivational speaker, wife and mom of four. Her work has inspired me so much to stay on track in achieving my goals and becoming a better version of myself. Rachel’s journal consists of writing down 5 things you are grateful for, 10 dreams as if they already happened, and 1 goal to achieve first.
While Mrs. Hollis’s suggests doing this daily, last year I did this every first of the month and my intention for 2020 is to do it every Monday starting February because that is what works for me. Eventually for me the practice will be daily but what is most important is developing the habit of writing things down and working towards achieving your goals everyday.
And now you are probably wondering, how is this going to help me stay organized? Well, let me tell you that writing down what I’m grateful for and my goals every month helped me accomplish things that I never thought I would be able to achieve and most importantly helped me to keep organized. When you start writing things down, it helps move you towards the things that you want to accomplish. From the smallest to the biggest dreams you have, seeing them on paper triggers the mind to start working and not giving up on your goals.
For example, every month I made it a goal to declutter and organize one space in my house and it worked. Writing it all down was an accountability mechanism for me and checking things off is always so satisfying.
I’ve seen the positive impact that journaling has had on me and I want you to also have the same positive experience. This year, I’m especially excited because I’ve convinced my 9 year old daughter and my husband to start this practice on their Erin Condren planners that they got for Christmas. Oh, not familiar with Erin Condren? I didn’t know much until my friend Todsplan invited me to a fabulous event he hosted at the Erin Condren store in the Mosaic District. I was introduced to planners paradise and walked out of the store with so much knowledge about planners and journals.
Stay focused, write your intentions, organize but most importantly be happy. Make 2020 your best year yet!
What will you do differently this year to accomplish your goals?
